This course covers the complex dynamics of hostage rescue, focusing on the innovative use of muzzled Police Service Dogs (K9s) as locating tools. Students will learn essential K9 attributes, integration techniques, and the pros and cons of K9 deployment in hostage scenarios. Practical exercises will include K9 deployment, behavior analysis, and decision-making in real-life situations. This course covers team movement, building clearing, and tactics essential for responding to rapid, fluid, and dynamic incidents. This course applies to Patrol, K9, and SWAT as each would benefit from training in these scenarios. This course requires a hosting agency, is copywrited and exclusive to Echelon K9.

Canine Team Post Evaluators Course

Our K9 POST Evaluators Course offers an excellent opportunity for seasoned canine handlers looking to expand their professional skills. This course is accessible to officers who have accumulated at least three years of experience in canine handling. Upon completing the course, participants will be certified to evaluate other canine teams for California POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Certification in both patrol and detection disciplines. This course is California POST certified.

Tactical Searching with K9 Course

This two day course teaches teams how to tactfully search on and off- leash in areas, buildings, and within a team element. This course begins with a powerpoint on perimeter control, suspect trends, tactical approaches to problem areas, search methods, case law, and search team functions. At the conclusion of the powerpoint teams will conduct scenario based tactical searches with their patrol teams. Patrol officers or SWAT personnel are encouraged to attend with the canine handler and participate in the scenarios. This course is California POST certified.

Canine Program Management Course

This two day course will take an in-depth look on how to properly manage and effectively run a canine unit. Canine handlers, supervisors, and managers are collectively responsible to ensure longevity for their canine unit. This course will help with policy guidelines, body worn camera protocols, legal updates, case law, record keeping, bite reporting procedures, training, and handler selection. Topics that will also be discussed are de-escalation tactics, bark and hold vs. find & bite, and AB 392 laws. This course is California POST Certified and a Plan IV course. Attendees will receive CPT credit.

Train the Trainer Course

This course is a comprehensive class designed to equip police dog handlers with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively train and manage their canine partners. The course covers various topics including basic obedience training, problem solving, scent detection, bite work, and legal measures. The instructors, who are experienced police dog trainers, use practical demonstrations and hands-on exercise to help the handlers understand the principles of dog behavior and training methods. The goal of this course is to provide police dog handlers with the tools and the confidence they need to training their dogs to a high standard and maintain their skills throughout the dog’s working life. All experience levels are welcome to attend.  This course is California POST certified.

Maintenance Training

Maintenance training is tailored to fit your department's individual needs. Our maintenance training focuses on real world canine engagements. This course will strengthen your canine team exposing them to numerous exercises and in turn helping with tactical deployments.

E-Collar Course

Our E-collar course is an in-depth course teaching foundational learning concepts. The E-collar will be taught first as a gas pedal to motivate behaviors, and quickly moves on to patrol dog concepts needed in a police canine setting. Teams with issues or in need of problem solving with their canines are encouraged to attend. Home protection dog owners are also encouraged to inquire about our six-week off leash program. This course is California POST certified.

Canine Agitators Course

This course is for experienced or inexperienced decoys. This course will teach decoy work specific to law enforcement, and military working dogs. The agitators course is a must for Police canine trainers and Military Working Dog trainers to ensure your decoys are functioning at their highest level. This course is California POST certified.

Canine S.W.A.T. Integration

This class can be 1, 2 or 3 days depending on the units needs, size of the unit, and training area availability. Topics include SWAT / Tactical Team integration, searching with canine, gas house scenarios (if venue available), search methods, vehicle deployments, bearcat / armored SUV introduction, and scenario-based training.

Canine Scenario Based Detection Course

This two day course is geared towards handlers that have finished a detection academy and are ready to tackle realistic scenarios that todays detection handlers observe in the patrol field. This course is for both single and dual purpose canines. We tailor towards your units specific needs of cargo, vehicles, baggage, structures, roadway route clearing, vessels, buses, trolleys, trains, check points, and passenger screening.
